The texture on this piece is what got me—you can really feel the hand-pressed ridges where the clay was shaped, so it doesn't look like something from a factory line. I've hung it above my reading chair and catch myself just tracing the spiral with my eyes while I sip coffee. It's a small thing, but
The spiral design has a lovely handcrafted feel, and knowing it's made by a community of women in South Africa makes it even more special. Mine arrived with subtle variations in the clay that prove it wasn't stamped out by a machine. It's become the first thing guests comment on in my living room.
The hand-painted ridges catch the light so differently depending on where you hang it, and I love that mine has a slightly off-center swirl that makes it feel one-of-a-kind. You can really tell a person shaped this, not a machine.
